What is limonene used for?
Limonene, also known as terpene, is a chemical found in the peels of citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, tangerines, grapefruits, and oranges. Existing studies on limonene show that a dose of two grams of limonene per day is safe for most adults to consume. The production of limonene from a monoterpene-producing yeast strain was investigated. In this work, various methods for extracting limonene from genetically modified strains were compared, including pentane extraction, solid-phase microextraction, dodecane overlay and headspace trapping, which could have an impact on limonene yield. Limonene is used for obesity, cancer, and bronchitis, but there is no solid scientific evidence for these
uses.
However, most research has been done in test tubes or on animals, making it difficult to fully understand the role of limonene in human health and disease prevention.
